I recently read an article (if I can even call it that) published online at Today @ Sam, a student newspaper published at Sam Houston State University, about how Bob Dole will become the 12th speaker in the SHSU President's Series. The article is a timeline or resume of sorts for Bob Dole. The "article" speaks nothing of previous speakers or even what the series entails. Why is he speaking and to whom is he speaking? I'm not quite sure, BUT I do know that Bob Dole grew up during the Great Depression. I also learned, thanks to a type-o, that Bob Dole's first job was as a "soda jerk." I truly am surprised that I made it past the title, let alone the first couple of sentences.
I think that a speaker of this magnitude is entitled to a bit of press and a little hype because after reading his resume - oops! I meant this "article" - the man deserves a little respect. Most can only dream of half the career this man has had, yet he has very distinguished military AND political careers, and frankly, Sam Houston State University is lucky to have him. I mean this man is retired. He could be on a beach somewhere sipping on a coconut with an umbrella, but No! He is speaking to a group of 20-somethings who are probaly skipping class to see him, trying to make the world a better place for those who play hookie.

I do believe in keeping history in its place, however, I am pro-development. Houston is one of the fastest growing cities. I believe that it would be more than convenient for the astrodome to be turned in to a hotel facility so that when people do go to the rodeo and such, they will have a place to stay for the night. No doubt the hotel would rake in some dough, but perhaps the astrodome co-signers could come to an agreement of renting the lot, or taking some revenue somehow :)
